Within hours of war being declared many Wisharts in army reserve were mobilized for service, and ordered to report to their regimental depots. Of those, we have service papers for, 9577 Pte. Alexander Joss Wishart, 1st East Lancashire Regiment makes his way to Preston, 1508 Pte. Albert Wishart, RAMC, and 1632 Pte. William Wishart, Durham Light Infantry join their units in Newcastle and Gateshead respectively. 609 Bdr. Gilbert Wishart rejoins the Royal Field Artillery in Grimsby.
In Scotland 1855 Pte. William Wishart is embodied for service with the Queen’s Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry, who he had been serving with since 1911. An Aberdour man – 613 Gnr. James Wishart of the Highland (Fife) Royal Garrison Artillery is mobilised for service and joins his unit in Kirkcaldy. 2470 Spr. Peter Wishart is embodied for service and joins the 2nd Lowland Field Company, Royal Engineers.
