At 10:45 am 1496 Pte. John Wishart and the 1st/4th Battalion Royal Scots went over the top to attack the Turkish lines at Fir Tree Spur. John was assigned the role of signaller and was probably one of those who were described later as ‘falling in bundles’ before the enemy machine guns.
