In Winnipeg, a 28-year-old farrier and blacksmith named Alexander Stewart Wishart visits the recruiting office and joins the Canadian Engineers. Originally from Largs, Ayrshire, Alexander had served with the Largs Artillery Volunteers before the war, and arrived in Canada during 1913. He settled with his wife Jean Henderson Ashcroft in Macdonald, Manitoba and a son named Thomas was born in 1915 (three more children were born to the marriage after the war.) Alexander’s military service is currently unknown, however he lived until 1963 and is part of tree WIS0098.
