Around 2 p.m. an attack was made on the front of the 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers position. The assault continued for the best part of two hours before dying away. Pte. Thomas Wishart spent the day with his unit holding the line and perhaps heard the explosion when two houses close to the Fusiliers position were blown up by 54th Field Coy, Royal Engineers. The buildings had been sheltering German snipers. Close to midnight heavy firing commenced on the right of the line.
