In Brisbane, Queensland a 26-year-old local motor mechanic named Leslie Robert Wishart joins the Australian Army and is assigned to the 11th Depot Battalion, Mechanical Transport Company. Less than a year later he is sent overseas to France and Flanders. The same day in Perth, Western Australia, 20-year-old milkman William Frederick Wishart also visits the recruiting office and joins the 16th Battalion AIF.
