Born at Erskine Place in Alloa on 18 December 1887, Alister McNab Wishart was the fourth of six children of Robert, a commercial clerk, and his wife, Margaret McNab.
By 1901 the family had moved to Aberdeen where in June 1910, Alister joined the postal service as a postman. Two years later on 14 June 1912, he married Helen Barron, with a daughter named Helen being born during the following October.
Alister served with the Royal Engineers during The Great War; however, no further details as to his military service have survived.
