Born at Erskine Place in Alloa on 18 December 1887, Alister McNab Wishart was the fourth of six children of Robert, a commercial clerk, and his wife, Margaret McNab.
By 1901 the family had moved to Aberdeen where in June 1910, Alister joined the postal service as a postman. Two years later on 14 June 1912, he married Helen Barron, with a daughter named Helen being born during the following October.
Alister served with the Royal Engineers during The Great War; however, no further details as to his military service have survived. He worked for the postal service for the rest of his life and had risen to the position of head postman at the time he died suddenly of a heart attack on 22 June 1943. He had been living in Aberdeen at Pitstruan Place and was 55 years old.
