Tree: WIS0089

Eldon Lawton Wishart was born on 11 July 1898 in the city of Fall River, Massachusetts. He was the eldest of five children of Gilbert Banks Wishart, a carpenter from Nova Scotia, and his wife, Abbie Lawton. The family lived on North Main Street and at the age of eighteen, young Eldon, who by then was working as a clerk, enlisted in the US Navy on 29 March 1917. Little is known about his war service other than that during this period he became an accomplished swimmer and won many diving and freestyle medals in service meets.

After the war, Eldon worked as an electrician and in 1919 joined the King Philip Lodge in Fall River. On 22 December 1922 Eldon married a nurse from Portland, Maine named Adelaide Mary Schwartz, and two sons were eventually born in 1930 and 1932. The family lived in Portland and by the mid-1920s Eldon became a salesman, a career he held until retirement.

Eldon died in Sebago, Maine on 23 January 1978 and is buried in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
