Matron Annie Mary Darling Wishart (1872 – 1953)
Tree: WIS0089
Annie Mary Darling Wishart was born in Leith on 17 November 1872. She was the eldest of six children of James Wishart, a grocer from Culross, and his wife, Elizabeth Liddle McLaren. The family lived on Ferry Road but in 1891 were on Albany Street. Annie had left school and was working as a milliner however it was not a profession she would pursue and by 1901 had moved to Innerleithen in Peeblesshire where she assisted her brother James at his medical practice.
In 1911 Annie lived with her parents at 45 Dudley Crescent in Leith and was working as a nurse. During the war, she served overseas with the British Committee of the French Red Cross between November 1914 and November 1917. Unfortunately, no further details are currently known about this period in her life.
After the war, Annie lived with her sister Helen, and in 1930 moved to Bankton House in North Queensferry, where she died on 22 April 1953.
