At 4:30 in the morning Alice Ramsay Wishart is born at 1 Second Street in Bowhill, Auchterderran. She is the daughter of a coal miner named William, and named after her mother – Alice Ramsay.
In Edinburgh a 29 year old tailor named Robert Don Wishart enlists in the army and joins 37 Signal Coy, Royal Engineers. He is married with two young children.
In Givenchy privates 2450 J Wishart and 7397 G Wishart of the 1st Black Watch survive a stormy day in the trenches where five other men are wounded. At 1:15 p.m. the battalion lay down heavy gun and rifle fire against enemy positions. 1995 Pte. Albert Wishart of the 1st/5th Black Watch has a similar day in the trenches in the Neuve Chapelle sector.
