9 August 1918

In Buffalo, New York a 24-year-old local salesman named Hector Gordon Wishart joins up with Battery E, 35th Field Artillery. Born on 20 November 1893 to a German named John Voltz and his wife Elizabeth McLean Wishart, it is probable Hector enlisted under his mother’s surname due to the anti-German feeling at that time. He would see home service until 5 February 1919, when he was demobilised, and is part of tree WIS0034.
