In Birkenhead, a 25-year-old ship’s engineer from Kildary named John Wishart is posted for duty and joins the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Scots Guards. John had enlisted in Liverpool on 2 March 1916 and would spend the rest of the war based in the UK. After the war John went back to sea, and drowned off the coast of China on 9 January 1931.
