David Wishart enlisted in the Royal Engineers on 27 August 1914 and served overseas in Egypt from 15 June 1915 but was wounded less than a month later on 13 July. Due to his injuries, David was eventually discharged from service on 29 June 1916 while based at the engineer’s training centre in Newark.
