In Newcastle, a 35-year-old cycle mechanic from Carlisle named William Wishart joins the Royal Marine Light Infantry. William, part of tree WIS0101, spends the war based in Chatham and is discharged from service in April 1918.
France & Flanders
Arriving in France is 6860 Pte. William Frederick Wishart of the Australian Imperial Forces. On arrival William marches to the 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot in Etaples where he is processed before joining the 16th Infantry Battalion in the field three days later.
