Visiting the recruitment office in Prince Rupert, British Columbia is 59-year-old farmer, Francis Kenneth Wishart from West Flamboro, Ontario. Kenneth lies about his age (stating he was born in 1874) just to be accepted into the military, and subsequently becomes one of the oldest men to see action on the Western Front. After being wounded he returned to North America and gave lectures around Canada and the USA about life on the Western Front as the self-styled ‘Grandaddy of the Somme’. He died in 1942 aged 85.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
