Enlisting in Chelmsford is 18-year-old Ernest Robert Wishart from Dedham, Essex. At the time he had been working as an agricultural labourer and joined the 1/8th Cyclist Battalion, Essex Regiment. As Ernest would not be eligible for overseas service until his nineteenth birthday, (January 1919), he spent the remainder of the war based in the UK.
After the war, ‘Wish’ – as he was known by his friends, worked as a labourer and married in 1943. He never had any children and died in Ipswich during 1980. He is part of tree WIS0131.
