Arriving in Boulogne to join the Machine Gun Corps is 172641 Pte. Joseph Wishart from High Spen, County Durham. He will be assigned to the 200th Battalion (part of the 59th Division) and joins his unit in the field on 3 November. In his civilian life Joseph was a coal miner, so after the Armistice he was prioritised for demobilisation on 29 December and embarked for England at Dunkirk on 2 January 1919.
After the war, Joseph eventually became a colliery haulage driver and married Hilda Brown in 1938. He lived the rest of his life in the area where he grew up and died from Bronchopneumonia on 28 June 1978 at Dunston Hill Hospital. Joseph is part of tree WIS0031.
