132137 AM1 George Wishart (1898 – 1969)

George Wishart was born on 9 May 1898 at 525 Govan Road in Govan, Glasgow. He was the second of four children of Andrew Wishart, a licensed grocer, and his wife, Jeanie Wilson Sinclair. After leaving school George began work as an apprentice fitter and by 1918 his family were living at 19 Wood Street in Partick. On 21 February 1918, he enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps (afterwards the Royal Air Force) as Air Mechanic 2nd class. George sent to the Short Term Reserve until 14 July when he was temporarily posted to 130 Squadron before being sent to No 15 Training Depot Station at Hucknall in Nottinghamshire, where he remained for the remainder of the war.

On 3 May 1919, George was demobilised and returned to Partick where he married Agnes McConachy McNicol on 28 March 1934. Two sons were born of the marriage and he worked as a fitter until retirement. He died in Barrhead, aged 71, in 1969.
