8394 Pte. John Waddie Wishart of C Company, 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers marches through Longeuval to Bourg where he crosses the River Aisne. One road lead to crossing over which the whole 1st Division were to traverse meaning that the battalion finally moved towards the river at 2 p.m., and made the crossing whilst being shelled by the Germans. Most of the bridges have been destroyed and consequently artillery fire is concentrated on those still standing. The battalion make it over and line a ridge north of Bourg where they bivouac.
56591 Gnr. George Greig Wishart, 56th Battery, Royal Field Artillery is in action on the ridge south of the River Aisne (at Point 175 – about a mile west of Dhuizel) in support of the 4th Guards Brigade, who advance on Chavonne.
