France & Flanders

Arriving in Boulogne today is 24250 Pte. William Donald Wishart of the 7th/8th Bn King’s Own Scottish Borderers. After disembarkation William is sent to the 21st Infantry Base Depot in Etaples. It appears unlikely that he joined his regiment in the field as he was attached to the 5th Army Infantry School at Saint Léger-les-Domart, where he was sent on the 19th, and worked in a non-combative role – perhaps labouring (which he had been involved in prior to arrival in France) or in an administrative capacity. After the war William continued to work as a gardener and lived the rest of his life in Blairgowrie. He never married and died on 11 April 1958 in Burghmuir Hospital, Perth.  He is part of tree WIS0072.
